Big night out, emceeing the 2nd of 2 sold out shows for Lyndel Pleasant. He is so super funny and one of the nicest comics I have met.

Right now I am hanging out in the back of a comedy club actually sitting on the floor. This is what I live for some laughs and a brownie with ice cream. A far cry from the old me gearing up to dance on bars – woot it’s Saturday night. Be safe, use a fake name and watch out for the creep guy in the corner bar.

Yes please I’ll take a drag queen with my brunch. Happy Valentine’s Day…This last week has been super crazy but the highlight had to be this past Sunday…I have not laugh so hard in a long time as a few straight bachelors dress up in drag to raise money for Cystic Fibrous Research at Buff Fae’s Drag Bunch of Valentine’s Day Love. It was super delicious!

These guys were able to raise about $450 and rocked out in stilettos, you go girls ;) . They each picked out their stage names which are not appropriate for this audience but here are some pictures.

I also did a series of sets over the last week. A short 3 min set last Wednesday. Got some feedback, never start with something new unless it is an open mic, which this was not. Moving on so I did an open mic on Monday. Wrote some new Valentine’s Jokes and wanted to test them out, responds was great so I thought I was set to Emcee Valentine’s day. Not sure the crowd was ready for me. Oh well can’t dwell on the past – I bet Kim Kardashian is glad not to be dating Ray J anymore – his girlfriends keep on dying, now if we could only get rid of Ke$ha.

Black Tie Comedy was a HUGE SUCCESS! I think the open bar may have helped a little ;)

This past Saturday I brough a little class to comedy and rocked it out in Valentino to a packed house. The dress was amazing and so was the show…so people are saying. Black Tie Comedy brought in over $1000 for a night of laughs and fun benefiting the 2012 Guys and Dolls Charity Auction and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation!

All of the comics were amazing, the show featured Chris Layton, Will Span, Eric McCrickard, Steve Price and AJ Ellis. Thanks guys for your time and support.

Prior to the show starting, no joke, there was a rap video being shot at the venue…a White rapper and some skinny ass, barley legal hoes…They decided to stay for the show. There is a part in my set where I talk about being a good Irish Catholic Girl…at that very moment one of the video hoes walk right in front of me, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask her if she went to church too. I don’t think she could have counted to 5, let alone answer such a difficult question. Needless to say the crowd loved it.

The purpose of Black Tie Comedy was to help with my fundraising effors for the Guys and Dolls Charity Auction.

Guys & Dolls features 24 of Charlotte’s prominent young professionals who join the CF Foundation in the fight for a cure. Each agrees to auction themselves off, along with a fabulous date package, to the highest bidder, all in the name of cystic fibrosis research. Each year, 600+ attendees fill the room for a night of great food, spectacular entertainment, and charitable giving. Guys and Dolls 2011 raised $225,000 in one night. The 2012 event is on February 25, 2012.

Check out my fun date package to Las Vegas.

Black Tie Comedy Look, Hanging out with my good friends Amy and John before the show. Black Dress By Valentino, Pearls are Kate Spade.

Less than a month in to the new year and I have already started to slack on blogging….oh well…Life happens and BTW my laptop just did not want to work for me.  In a blond moment I took my lap top to see the Geek Squad to find out that  my battery was not in all the way.  Yes I did study Computer Science and Business information Systems in college, at a pretty good school…should have checked the battery and rebooted, rookie mistake.

From a comedy perspective only 28 days into 2012 and some really neat things have happened.

First, I once again showcased at the Comedy Zone Charlotte on 1/18 and hit  up a new open mic this week.  The new open mic is great, good crowd…not just comics and it is earlier than most which is awesome for a working girl like me.

Second about a week a go or so I was lucky enough to see Collin Quinn’s Long Story Short here in Charlotte.  Through a random twist of fate after the show I just about ran in to the comic, literally.  He was coming out the theater and I was walking home with another comic/friend.  The encounter lead to an impromptu comedy lesson on smart comedy.  I guess I will work on some banking jokes.  Super grateful for the experience.

One last plug for the show I am hosting tonight – Black Tie Comedy:

Standup Comedy Event featuring some of the best local standup talent in Charlotte

Hosted By: Me – Kayte Malik Showcasing: A.J. Ellis, Chris Layton, Will Span, Eric McCrickard and Steve Price

We are all friends right?  Last night I did showcase and afterward someone came up to me and said I really liked your jokes, I could be your friend.  Not sure if that is creepy or not but that is exactly what I want when it comes to my jokes.  I want people to relate and laugh.  Life can be hard and if I can take tough situations like eating issues, drinking problems, being single and make light of it I am on the right track.

I am working on some fun new stuff to try out at the Comedy Zone tomorrow night…Ron Paul Being Old, the hotness factor of Mitt Romney’s Sons and the douchyest thing someone can say…To Be Continue…

On Friday night I ran up to Dilworth Coffee in Concord to host Freshly Brewed Comedy.  This was my first time at this open mic and well it was great.  Owner Rob Case was very accommodating and there was a decent size crowd.  There was a good pool of comics too, but It is a lot different doing a show in a coffee house where the comedy is not coupled with booze.   People are not as loose so the jokes have to tight.  It was a good place to test out the “laugh-ability” of my jokes.  I will be back up there featuring on March 9th.

The comedy never stops, so excited to start 2012. This past Wednesday I headed over to The Comedy Zone Charlotte to do a writing workshop and check out the Saints and Sinner’s Comedy Tour. Ended up doing 3 minutes in the Mainstage Showcase. My Tebow joke is still getting acollades…I will ride this until the Super Bowl, in 2037 ;)

See the joke now  on YouTube – http://youtu.be/cab4ezH7Fr0

As we enter 2012 I have decided on some realistic resolutions.

My resolutions for the year:

  1. Get a new passport to replace the one I lost at a bar which I was using as my ID because I “misplaced” my licence at the same bar… Man I was a mess back in 2009.
  2. Use said passport.
  3. Stay consistent on my blog posts. 2011 was a fun comedy year so lets keep it going.
  4. Kick my coke habit…Diet Coke that is…7 days into the new year and I am DC free…I am like a crack head when it comes to Diet Coke…This is a true one day at a time situation.

One final thing – I have been working really hard on a charity comedy show that will be held on January 28, 2012.

It is good to give back!

Black Tie Comedy Crew

Last Thursday (12/22/2011) I preformed in the Christmas addition of the Chet Wild’s Comedy Club Showcase in Rochester, NY at The Comedy Club.  It was great to be back in Rochester, I love going home and enjoy the guys at The Comedy Club.

I tried out a new joke as the Christ child was in Buffalo on Christmas Eve.

Tim Tebow – I don’t get the whole Tebow Craze….

The last time checked he was just an unaborted fetus not a God – Now Kim Kardashin that is someone we really can look up to and respect.

Showcase Look:  Tights Kate Spade, Shoes BCBG, Red Top and Sequin Skirt from Ann Taylor Loft – I love that I am a size 4 and an XS at the LOFT…HA! that is a joke : )~

Note to self, during a show…

Do not yell “Go Bills” in a crowd of 150 Miami Dolphin Fans – Instant turn of the crowd…How was I suppose to know 60 miles east of Buffalo in Rochester, NY the audience would go from loving a silly AIDS joke to wishing I had AIDS – because of 2 words – GO BILLS!

Tonight back in my hometown of Rochester, NYI was asked to be part of a charity show/Joke Off at The Comedy Club. Format: 8 comics go head to head in an elimination style show. Doing 1 minute worth of fresh martial based off of suggestions from the crowd. It was a lot of fun and for a great cause. I was ahead in the first round but after yelling Go Bills it was tough to win the crowd back. Either way it was for a great cause – Patrick Callaghan, a Rochester Guy, who lost his right arm in a car accident. The show was to help raise money for a prosthetic arm. They were able to bring in $1300…For more information and to donate check out the link below:

Tomorrow night I will be back at The Comedy Club to do Christmas Show…Hope to see you there!!!!

Dear Santa,

All I want for Christmas is a nice boy to kiss under the mistletoe, wait scratch that, that makes me sounds like Jerry Sandusky. Let’s try this again…I’ll Take an iPad instead.

Speaking of Christmas, I got an eCoupon from Dick’s Sporting Goods today, SU and Penn State boys sweatpants are ½ till Christmas.

So last Thursday night (12/8/11) was the 23rd annual Second String Santa benefiting Toys for Tots here in Charlotte. For $20 and a Toy attendees gain entrance to a really pretty party…It was kind of like Alive After 5 in Cocktail Dresses. Everyone looked great all dressed up. The event was jam-packed but a lot of fun. This was the 4th year I was attendance and over all I think it was one of my favorites.

Second String Santa Look – Sapphire Blue BGBG Dress, I did my own hair, Pearls Tiffany’s and Tan By Spray Soleil.

Big news I will doing a showcase in Rochester, NY on 12/22/11 at The Comedy Club…Hope to see you there.
