The idea behind the first ever Queen City Comedy Throwdown was to bring together a collection of established Charlotte comics and improv groups to raise money for a great cause.
You know me and a great charity event/cause…
The cause was in support of the Standout Charlottean Award for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, nominee Kim Hughes, owner of 704events.com, designed the event. The Standout Charlottean Award recognizes Outstanding Charlottean Business Professionals. The event was produced by fellow comic Eric McCrickard.
I was honored to be asked to participate in this great event. This past Saturday I took the stage at the Chop Shop in NoDa to tell jokes. It was a very large space with interesting acoustics. I really could not see or hear the crowd’s reaction to my jokes but everyone seemed to like my set. It was a great experience and everyone did a wonderful job.
The benefit raised about $1300.
One other thing…I love to read celebrity Tweets. They confirm that my college degree was a good investment. On the day of the event Paris Hilton (Saturday 8/13/11) Tweeted:
So excited for my Paris Hilton Handbag Store opening in the #Philippines. Look forward to meeting you there!
Does anyone else see the irony in this?
To me this reads…I am so excited Daddy just brought me a sweatshop and 100 little Filipino children, now I can make cheap handbags and get a mani/pedi at the same time.
